A Brief Analysis of Gantry Robot Types

Author:

Based on the different roles of gantry robots in the production line, we divide them into the following categories:

  1. Classification by Function

Based on the different roles of gantry robots in production lines, they are classified as follows:

Handling Gantry Robot: Transports products or workpieces from the material location to the designated location according to predetermined instructions.

Palletizing Gantry Robot: Performs palletizing operations, stacking products in multiple layers and columns.

Loading and Unloading Gantry Robot: Generally cooperates with machine tools for processing operations. The loading gantry robot places the workpiece in the designated position for processing, and the unloading gantry robot removes the processed workpiece and places it in the designated position.

Loading and Unloading Gantry Robot for Vehicles: Equipped with an automatic quantitative loading system, it performs automatic loading or unloading operations.

Warehouse Gantry Robot: Equipped with a warehouse management system, it performs warehousing and outbound operations for products/workpieces.

Kiln Loading and Unloading Gantry Robot: Places products into high-temperature kilns or removes products from kilns. The end-effectors of these robots are usually treated for high-temperature resistance.

Cleaning Gantry Robot: Immerse products in cleaning tanks or tanks/buckets of related liquids. The end-effectors of these robots are usually treated for corrosion resistance.

Machining Gantry Robot: These gantry robots are generally five-axis or six-axis and can perform machining operations on workpieces.

  2. Classification by Payload

This is relatively simple, generally divided into heavy-duty gantry robots, medium-duty gantry robots, and light-duty gantry robots.

  3. Classification by Positioning Accuracy

Divided into high-precision gantry robots, medium-precision gantry robots, and low-precision gantry robots.

  4. Classification by Number of Axes

That is, classified according to the direction of movement of the robot arm. Common ones include two-axis, three-axis, and four-axis gantry robots. There are also processing types such as five-axis and six-axis gantry robots used for cutting, drilling, and milling, as well as a seventh axis customized with articulated robots, such as welding, inspection, and spraying.
